A tooth abscess is a pocket of pus that’s caused by a bacterial infection.

Signs You May Have a Dental Abscess

  • Severe, constant, throbbing toothache.
  • Pain or discomfort with hot and cold temperatures.
  • Pain or discomfort with the pressure of chewing or biting.
  • Bump or “pimple” like spot on your gums.
  • Redness inside the mouth, or outside the mouth on the face or jaw.
  • Having a bad taste in your mouth.
  • Having a fever.
  • Having a swollen face or jaw.
  • Tender, swollen lymph nodes under your jaw or in your neck.
