Top Teething Tips

It’s really tough to see your child start teething and experience constant pain. Teething doesn’t just apply to babies; young children are still getting their permanent teeth as well and can experience pain when shedding their baby teeth and when the adult teeth come in. Some children develop at a slower rate than others. Any concerns speak to your pediatrician first then make a dental appointment for a checkup. Try these methods to help ease the discomfort during the different stages of development.

  • Massage the gums. Try a teething oil or dissolvable teething tablets.
  • Teethers/teething toys or cold washcloths. Try refrigerating them (make sure they are not too hard as it can hurt their gums).
  • Freeze milk or yogurt with some fruit to make popsicles.
  • Extra cuddling time.
  • Pain medications. Speak to your pediatrician first about the use and proper dosage.
  • Rinse with warm salt water to reduce the inflammation (children ages 6 and up).
  • Keep the area clean as food can get trapped around the tooth and gum which can cause irritation and swelling.
